Governor Cuomo’s Failure to Deliver On-Time Budget Hurts School Children

ALBANY, NY (April 3, 2017) — In response to Governor Cuomo’s budget extender legislation, the Alliance for Quality Education released the following statement:

“Governor Cuomo has failed to negotiate an on-time budget and now the children of the state will pay the consequences,” said Billy Easton, executive director of the Alliance for Quality Education. “Governor Cuomo’s new chapter in Albany dysfunction places our school children at peril because it means larger class sizes and cuts to art, music, tutoring, libraries and more. A two-month extender with flat funding for schools means classroom cuts for the next twelve months. School budgets must go to the voters before this extender expires. Governor Cuomo is sacrificing educational opportunities for our children on the altar of his political ambitions.”
