As you may already know, Governor Paterson has called state legislators back to Albany for an emergency economic session on Tuesday, August 19th. During this session legislators will address the property tax cap plan. If passed, the proposal will be huge setback for public education children across the state. New York's economic and property tax problems must be relieved, but not at the expense of our children's education. Property tax caps are a dangerous policy. In California, Massachusetts and Illinois caps have been proven to hurt education. The property tax caps in these states resulted in larger class sizes, teacher firings and program cuts.
