Voting is open NOW through May 13th – make your voice count!

Skip ahead to see some great candidates running in your district!

The Community and Citywide Education Council (CEC) elections are happening right now – and they’re about more than just filling seats. They’re about shaping the future of our public schools and ensuring every student, no matter their background, has the opportunity to succeed in a safe, supportive, and equitable learning environment.

This election will decide who represents you and your values in decisions that directly affect our schools – from special education and language access to school safety and inclusion. These are the people who advocate for you and your child – and we need the strongest voices at the table.

Not Sure What This Is All About? Here’s What You Need to Know:

What are CECs?
Community and Citywide Education Councils are elected bodies that give parents a real say in how New York City’s public schools are run. They influence education policy, hold town halls, review school zoning changes, and more. In short: they’re an essential part of a healthy school system – and a healthy democracy.

Why it matters:
This isn’t just about policy. It’s about people. Who we elect to our local councils will shape how schools address equity, safety, inclusion, and opportunity.

How to Vote

Deadline: May 13, 2025
Where you vote: Online, through your NYC Schools Account (NYCSA)

Step 1: Log into or set up your NYC Schools Account
You need a NYCSA to vote. If you already have one, you’re halfway there.
Log in or sign up here.

If you’re new to NYCSA, don’t worry – it’s free, secure, and gives you access to important info about your child’s education year-round.

Step 2: Find out which councils you’re eligible to vote for
Depending on your child’s grade level and needs, you might be eligible to vote in more than one council, including councils for:

  • Your district (if your child is in a K–8 DOE school)
  • Students receiving special education services
  • English Language Learners
  • High School students
  • District 75 programs

Step 3: Make Your Voice Heard – and Help Others Do the Same
Once you’re logged in to your NYC Schools Account, your personalized ballot will be waiting for you. Review the candidates running in your district – many of them are parents and advocates who’ve been doing the work for years – then cast your vote and submit. Just like that, you’ve helped shape the future of your local public schools! But don’t stop there.

Share this page with your friends, your parent groups, your block, your WhatsApp chat. When more of us vote, our CECs become a true reflection of the hopes, demands, and diversity of New York City’s majority.

Local elections like these are where change begins – where communities plant the seeds of resilience, hope, equity, and justice that grow outward, from our schools to our city and beyond. In times like these, when a healthy democracy feels threatened or distant, it’s these everyday civic acts that help hold it up.

So vote and bring others in your school communities along with you. Let’s show what’s possible when families speak up, stand together, and shape the system from the inside out.
