AQE Responds to Tuesday’s Primary Election Results

In response to Tuesday’s primary election results, public education advocacy organization Alliance for Quality Education released the following statement:

“Yesterday’s primaries showed the strength of grassroots organizing and campaigning focused on making life easier and more affordable for everyone. That includes freezing the rent, providing free child care, supporting well-funded public schools, and making the ultra-wealthy pay a little bit more to fund it all. New Yorkers agreed that Assemblymember Mamdani’s campaign understood the power of organizing and implemented the strategies needed to get there. They amassed 40,000 volunteers who knocked on more than a million doors and sent half a million texts and phone calls. The organizing paid off,” said Zakiyah Shaakir-Ansari and Marina Marcou-O’Malley, Co-Executive Directors, Alliance for Quality Education.

“In round one of the city’s vote, he has already received more than 400,000 votes. But the organizing alone would not have worked without Zohran’s sincere belief that NYC can be affordable and a clear plan to get there. The work is not done, as the path toward the general election is long, and the path toward a New York that works for all of us is even longer. But for today, we celebrate.”
