Education Warriors is AQE’s leadership development program for New York City parents who want to be more engaged on issues related to education justice in New York, at the city and state level.
Over 10 sessions, program participants receive in-depth training on a wide range of topics including community organizing, facilitation skills, social media for advocacy work, the political landscape and policies in New York State and New York City that impact public schools, public speaking, and more. The goal at the end of the program is for parents leaders to be equipped with the tools and skills necessary to organize in their own communities around public education in New York.
In between the leadership training sessions, participants receive “homework” that requires them to utilize their new skills in their own communities. This offers practical applications of skills learned from the previous session and transferable lessons that helps prepare them for the next training session.
