AQE Condemns Normalization of Hate Speech, Islamophobia Since Mamdani’s Election

NEW YORK, N.Y. (March 3, 2026) — Public education advocacy organization Alliance for Quality Education released the following statement:

“We unequivocally condemn the normalization of hate speech and Islamophobia that has intensified since the election of Zohran Mamdani,” said Zakiyah Shaakir-Ansari and Marina Marcou-O’Malley, co-executive directors, Alliance for Quality Education.
“Again and again we hear attacks that are rooted not in policy disagreements or debate, but in prejudice, and are designed to divide our communities and erode the foundations of our democracy.
“This is hate for the sake of hate, an attempt to undermine Mamdani because of who he is, as he fights for housing and other essential needs. We must call out hate speech wherever we see it and refuse to pick and choose when to stand against bigotry.”
