Our vision & impact
The Alliance for Quality Education (AQE) was founded 25 years ago to demand that New York fulfill its constitutional obligation to provide every child with a sound, basic education. Today, AQE is recognized as the state’s leading voice for education justice, combining grassroots organizing with policy expertise to secure billions of dollars in school funding and to reshape New York’s approach to K–12 education and early childhood care. AQE’s 501(c)(3)-compliant work is done in collaboration with the Public Policy and Education Fund of New York, allowing us to pair robust community organizing with comprehensive advocacy, and leveraging a robust statewide infrastructure.
We believe education justice means that children have the right to high quality academic opportunities, social and emotional supports, full access to arts, music, physical education, and after-school enrichment programs like sports and other extracurricular activities.
AQE was born to give a voice to parents and community members around the Campaign for Fiscal Equity lawsuit and calling for a quality education for their schools.
AQE is New York’s leading statewide public education advocacy organization, with staff located in Buffalo, Rochester, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, New York City and the Capital District.
