The rich are getting richer

We need New York’s elected leaders to protect children, not billionaires.

School districts have been forced to make cuts to vital services and programs all while New York’s 112 billionaires collectively saw their wealth increase by $59.5 billion in the past four months. In the midst of uprisings and a public health crisis, lawmakers are choosing to protect billionaires and corporations instead of children and their families.

Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie have a moral obligation to act in the best interest of New Yorkers and ensure that our communities have access to housing, health and education services they need. It’s time to take action to tax the ultra rich to fund our communities.

Send an email to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, and tell them to tax the ultra rich to fully fund public schools!

The State Legislature has two choices: continue to make cuts to vital programs like health and education, or they can ask New York’s billionaires and millionaires to contribute a little more of their newly acquired wealth in order to invest in education and health. As schools prepare for September, students will need more resources not less after enduring various traumas.

As New York continues the reopening process, we cannot allow history to repeat itself and short change the Black and Brown New Yorkers who have been most affected by these crisis. State leaders must pass legislation to raise revenues and fully fund public schools.

Email Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and tell them: Tax New York’s ultra rich and fully fund public schools!
